Tinfoil Boat Races

Tinfoil Boat Races

Spruces Campground

September 5-7, 2020 (Labor Day weekend)

Big Cottonwood Canyon, UT

Overall Rating: Amazing

Site #: 85 (mountain site) we also liked #68 (by the river)

RV Pad: Back-in on dirt, 9” slope

Weather: 70’s, Sunny with a little chill (Winter coat weather morning and evening)

Bikes or Scooters? Yes, we took scooters. Campground is huge, roads are paved, moderate traffic. Could take bikes next time.

Campfire? Great fire ring, with no optional grate cover. Charcoal grill also included.

Favorite Things Here: Play by the river. Scooter around. Hammocks, jump rope, games. Explore in forest areas. We took our cousins with us, so much fun.

Campground Notes: Large site area, can go far up behind the site to explore and hike around. Can walk down the paved road and take little trails to get to the river. Huge campground, hundreds of sites and usually full. It is the dirty dirt everywhere, so having a large mat under the RV stairs is very useful. Lots of dry twigs for campfires. Fully booked Saturday night, half booked Sunday, mostly empty Monday.

Pros: Large areas to explore, nowhere for kids to fall from so it’s a pretty safe campground. If you were in a site by the river you’d need to watch children carefully, but it’s fun to play by. Big trees for hammocks

Cons: really dirty dirt. But…camping!

Activities We Did: A lot of jump roping. Had fires in the morning and evenings. We went to the river and made tinfoil boats to race in the small area that we could safely race and catch them all. All we took was a box of tinfoil and everyone got a square of foil to make however they wanted, adding in what nature had to offer if they chose! *Don’t forget to totally clean up after yourselves.
